As a former county prosecutor, Jay McCann brings a unique understanding, of the criminal justice system to his litigation practice. Jay McCann focuses on Financial Crimes defense including defending insurance fraud, healthcare claims fraud, money laundering, and representation of corporations, physicians, and individuals in government investigations.

Jay McCann can assist in resolving disciplinary issues and audits involving professionals. His practice includes conducting corporate investigations of allegations of employee and corporate misconduct and breaches of fiduciary obligations.

Jay McCann was admitted to the practice of law in New Jersey in 1980. He received a B.A. degree from Washington and Lee University and a Juris Doctor degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law. He was a law clerk for New Jersey Superior Court Judge Carmen Ferrante in Paterson, New Jersey. Jay McCann investigated and prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases over a twenty-year career as a county prosecutor.

From 2012 until 2022, Jay McCann was Chief of the Insurance Fraud/Financial Crimes Unit of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, in which capacity he worked closely with the Attorney General’s Office of Insurance Fraud Prosecutor, the National Insurance Crime Bureau and the Special Investigations Unit of various insurance carriers.

Jay McCann has conducted seminars on Healthcare claims fraud for the Annual Insurance Fraud Summit of the New Jersey Special Investigators Association and was an instructor at the New Jersey Criminal Code at the Passaic County Police Academy.
